State Fire Prevention Commission : Delaware State Fire School

FIRST RESPONDER (40 Hours)

This course provides the student with the basic life support skills and knowledge to assess, stabilize, and monitor the prehospital patient. Some of the topics this course covers are airway management, CPR/AED, patient assessment and trauma management. This course is intended for those individuals who respond to prehospital situations and must manage the patient until basic life support or paramedic units arrive or the patient can be transferred to an individual with more advanced levels of training. This course prepares the student to take the National Registry First Responder written Exam and if successfully completed obtain a First Responder certification with a two-year renewal option. Recertification for First Responders holding a State of Delaware and/or a National Registry First Responder certification requires a 12-hour refresher every two years.
