The Delaware State Fire School School
has a variety of programs for
the Fire and Emergency Services
Our Core Programs are the Heart of the Delaware State Fire School. These courses consist of Basic Firefighting Skills, Structural Firefighting Skills, Hazardous Materials Response Skills, and Vehicle Rescue. These courses cover the basic skills for new firefighters wanting to train in the field. Combining these classes, along with First Aid and CPR, the student may sit as a Candidate for National Certification in NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, and NFPA 1001 Firefighter 1 & 2. The 1072 Awareness testing is included in the Basic Firefighting Skills course, and the other tests are generally held separately on a scheduled testing date. These classes are listed on our Season Schedule or Calendar located on the main page or under the “Classes” tab above or on our Course Catalog and Online Calendar.
Some of our programs expand on the training received in our Core Programs, so students can continue to learn and expand on their basic skills. These courses include those like Truck Company Operations, Engine Company Operations, and Live Fire Evolutions. These classes are listed on our Season Schedule or Calendar located on the main page or under the “Classes” tab above or on our Course Catalog and Online Calendar.
We offer basic courses like Vehicle Rescue, Rope Rescue, and Rapid Intervention Team. But we also offer more advanced courses. These courses can work together to advance the student and possibly lead up to National Certification in Rescue. These classes are listed on our Season Schedule or Calendar located on the main page or under the “Classes” tab above or on our Course Catalog and Online Calendar
The Fire School offers courses like Blue Card Incident Command Certification as well as FEMA ICS-300 & ICS-400 classes. We have also recently developed and began scheduling Unmanned Air Vehicle (Drone) courses for FAA Part 107 Test Prep and Drone Qualification. These classes are listed on our Season Schedule or Calendar located on the main page or under the “Classes” Tab above or on our Course Catalog and Online Calendar.
Along with Incident Command Programs, we offer a variety of officer programs to help develop the Company level and Chief officer. We offer courses like Crew Leader for members working through the ranks. We also offer Delaware Officer 1 and 2, as well as National Certification in Officer 1, 2, & 3. These classes are listed on our Season Schedule or Calendar located on the main page or under the “Classes” tab above or on our Course Catalog and Online Calendar.
We offer many of the listed programs in a shorter version for your training nights at the Station and at our any of Divisions. Many of our courses have a 3-hour Theory section in the classroom and a 3-hour Evolutions section. They can be combined for a 6 hour day or over two 3 hour sessions. This can also include EMS Continuing Education (CEU) classes in your station. Contact your local Division Manager for more information.
The Fire School attempts to get speakers from across the region and Nation to expose Delaware Firefighters to the most up-to-date information being presented. This can include local courses through the National Fire Academy and the annual Delaware Weekend in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Keep an eye out for special notices and on our Sign-up for Classes Page.
We offer courses to become certified as a Delaware and National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Emergency Medical Responder (EMR). These courses are held regularly throughout the year. You can find out more on our EMT Training Page or our EMR Training Page.

We offer training for Fire Brigades and Emergency Response Teams in Industry across the United States. The Fire School is working to help show today’s teens the Fire and Emergency Services, to help them see if it may be an option for them. We have our programs of the Junior Fire Camp and Camp Fury Delaware for Girls. Campers get to experience some of the training available and get a taste of the various areas to help guide them if they want to be in the Emergency Services. To learn more about our camps, go to our Summer Camps Page.
All of these courses and more can be found in our Course Catalog and Online Calendar!
